What is Excel to PDF conversion?
A spreadsheet has no natural page boundaries; a PDF is nothing but pages. The conversion resolves that by honouring the print setup already stored in the workbook — print areas, page order, scaling, repeated header rows — and rendering each visible sheet as its own run of pages.
Column widths, row heights, merged cells, conditional formatting including color scales and data bars, and embedded chart objects all come through as they would from Excel's own print path. Formulas do not. Every cell is written at its computed value, so the output holds numbers rather than logic: no references, no functions, no recalculation. That is usually the point. Distributing a quarterly report, an audit workpaper, a budget summary, or an invoice as PDF means the recipient cannot overwrite a formula, delete a row, or shift a reference, which is why regulated industries and procurement portals ask for it. Two behaviours are worth checking before you convert. Hidden sheets are excluded from the output entirely, which is convenient for working tabs and awkward when something was hidden by accident. And a table wider than the page will be scaled down or split across pages according to the source file's settings, so set an explicit print area and a fit-to-width scaling in Excel first if the layout matters.
