Page Numbers
Add page numbers to a PDF document
What is PDF page numbering?
PDF page numbering automatically adds page numbers to every page of a PDF document. This is essential for multi-page reports, contracts, academic papers, and any document where readers need to reference or navigate specific pages.
You can configure the starting number, position (top or bottom, left, center, or right), font size, and whether to include a total page count (e.g. 'Page 3 of 12'). All processing runs in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start page numbering from a number other than 1?
Yes. You can set any starting number. This is useful for documents that are part of a larger set, or when excluding front matter from the page count.
Can I add page numbers to a specific page range only?
The tool adds page numbers to all pages by default. For selective numbering, split the PDF first, number the relevant section, then merge the parts back together.
Will page numbers overlap with existing headers or footers?
Page numbers are added as a new text layer. If your PDF already has a header or footer, numbers may overlap. Adjust the position setting to avoid conflicts.
Is the PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Page numbers are applied entirely in your browser using PDF-lib. Your file is never sent anywhere.
